Maximize Your Range: Battery Care Tips for Dual-Motor E-bikes

Riding a dual-motor e-bike like the WILDEWAY SOARED feels like having a superpower. Whether you are blasting up a steep Alpine trail or cruising across a soft Mediterranean beach, the AWD system makes you unstoppable.

However, physics is physics. Powering two motors requires more electricity than powering one.

While the SOARED comes equipped with a massive, high-capacity lithium-ion battery designed for heavy-duty exploration, your riding habits and how you treat that battery off the bike will ultimately determine how far you can go and how many years the battery will last.

Want to maximize your range and protect your investment? Follow these expert battery care tips.

🔋 1. The 20-80% Charging Rule (The Sweet Spot)

Lithium-ion batteries (the same technology used in your smartphone and Tesla cars) do not like extremes.

  • Avoid 0%: Consistently draining your e-bike battery until it completely dies places immense stress on the chemical cells and will shorten its lifespan. Try to head home or recharge when you drop to around 20%.
  • Don't sit at 100%: It is perfectly fine to charge to 100% right before a long ride. However, leaving the battery plugged in and sitting at 100% for weeks while stored in your garage degrades the battery health.

❄️ 2. Respect the Cold: Winter Battery Hacks

European winters can be brutal, and cold temperatures are the natural enemy of battery performance. If you ride your fat-tire e-bike in the snow, you might notice your range drops by 15% to 30%. This is normal, but requires care:

  • Store Indoors: The SOARED features a seamlessly integrated but removable battery. Never leave the battery attached to the bike in a freezing garage overnight. Use your key, pop it out, and keep it inside your warm house.
  • NEVER Charge When Freezing: If you just finished a freezing winter ride, do not plug the battery in immediately. Let the battery warm up to room temperature for a couple of hours before connecting the charger. Charging a frozen lithium battery can cause irreversible chemical damage.

⚙️ 3. Use Your Gears to Help the Motors

The dual motors on the SOARED are powerful, but they shouldn't do all the work alone, especially on steep hills.
If you try to climb a steep gradient while in your highest mechanical gear (Gear 7), the motors have to draw a massive amount of "Amps" (electrical current) to turn the wheels, draining your battery incredibly fast and generating heat.

  • The Fix: Use your mechanical Shimano gears! Shift down into Gear 1 or 2 when climbing. By pedaling at a faster cadence in a low gear, you reduce the strain on the motors, drastically improving your battery efficiency.

🧠 4. The Ultimate Range Hack: Cadence vs. Torque Sensors

If you are currently deciding between the SOARED Pro and the SOARED Max, your choice will actually impact your battery range.

  • SOARED Pro (Cadence Sensor): When you pedal, the speed sensor tells the motors to output a fixed amount of power based on your assist level. Even if you are pedaling very lightly on a flat road, the motor might still be pushing hard, which can use up extra energy.
  • SOARED Max (Torque Sensor): This is the ultimate tool for maximizing range. The torque sensor acts like a smart energy manager. It precisely measures how hard your legs are pushing. If you are cruising on flat ground and pedaling softly, it only sips a tiny amount of battery to assist you. It saves the massive dual-motor power bursts only for when you push hard on a steep hill. Because it eliminates "wasted" energy, the SOARED Max is generally more battery-efficient, allowing you to ride further.

🧳 5. Long-Term Storage (The "Off-Season")

If you are going on a long holiday or putting the bike away for a few months during extreme weather, do not store the battery fully charged or completely empty.
Charge or discharge the battery to roughly 50% to 60% capacity, remove it from the bike, and store it in a cool, dry place indoors. Check on it once a month; if it drops below 40%, top it back up to 50%.

Ready to Go the Distance?

Your e-bike's battery is its beating heart. By treating it with respect, avoiding extreme temperatures, and riding smart, you ensure that your WILDEWAY SOARED is always ready to deliver that thrilling AWD power whenever the wilderness calls.
